Loops and Threads Woolike Waffle Weave Scarf

One of my favorite yarns for weaving is Loops and Threads Woolike.  With 678 yards in a 3.5 ounce skein for around $3 , it is a wonderfully inexpensive substitute for finer yarns.  I used it with my 12.5 dent heddle for this fabulous mock waffle weave scarf.

Mock Waffle Weave Scarf
This is my take on a scarf I saw in a book.  The original was made with a fingering weight wool at a cost of $42.  This uses less than 1 skein of Woolike. And this is a great pattern for playing with a pickup stick for the first time!

Finished size:
Approximately 7.5 inches wide and 72 inches long with 3 inch fringe on each end

Rigid Heddle loom with at least 10" weaving width (Woven my on my 20" Ashford Knitter's Loom)
12 or 12.5 dent heddle
One pick up stick
One shuttle
Yarn needle

Loops and Threads Woolike
85% Acylic, 15% Nylon
3090 YPP
Purple
574 yds (1 skein)

Warp length
113"
108 Ends

Width in heddle
9" (for 12 dent heddle - slightly less for 12.5 dent heddle)

Warp your loom using the direct warping method, centering the warp.

Leave a tail about 4 times weaving width for hemstitching.

Weave 1" of plain weave

Do a 2x2 hemstitch

To start the pattern:

Place your heddle in the down position.  This brings your slot threads up.  You are only picking up the SLOT threads.

Behind the heddle, use the pick up stick to pick up every other slot thread across. Slide the stick towards the back of the loom.

All pickup patterns have the following instructions:

Up - put your heddle in the up position and weave across
Down - put your heddle in the down position and weave across
Pick Up Stick -put your heddle in the neutral position.  Slide the pick-up stick close to the heddle and turn it up on it's side and weave across
Up and Pick Up Stick - Put your heddle in the up position.  Slide the pick up stick close to the heddle, leaving it flat and weave across

Begin weaving the pattern.  There are six steps:

1. Up
2. Pick up stick
3. Up
4. Down
5. Up and Pick Up Stick
6. Down

Continue weaving in the pattern for 84".

Weave 1" of plain weave
Do a 2x2 hemstitch

Take it off the loom.

Handwash in warm water and hang to dry.

Trim fringe to 3"

A lovely little scarf for not a lot of money!

Enjoy!
