Homespun Rainbow Blanket
When I crocheted, I probably made over a hundred items from Lion Brand Homespun Yarn. It was soft and cuddly. Bulky weight meant it was quick to make anything from a scarf to a poncho to an afghan.
Weaving has not dimmed my love of Lion Brand Homespun. A recent project inspiration for my weaving group was "Rainbow Connection" and I was inspired to do this blanket.
I also wanted to do a large project on my smallest loom - my 10" SampleIt. because it is done in panels with a bulky yarn, it is a quick weave. The texture of the yarn also makes it very forgiving.
This is woven in seven panels - each panel takes almost a full skein of yarn. I whipstitched the panels together - next time I will probably use a baseball stitch to join the panels.
Materials
Lion Brand Homespun, 1 skein each Candy Apple, Wildfire, Golden, Malachite, Montana Sky, Colonial Blue and Gothic.
Ashford SampleIt Loom, 10" wide
5 dent heddle.
Warp length - 90"
(Note that loom waste was minimal since I used the SampleIt - a regular sized Rigid Heddle Loom will require a warp of at least 96", but panels will need to be narrower or shorter to use one skein of yarn)
44 ends (roughly 9" wide in reed)
Weave a short header of 3-4 picks scrap yarn.
Weave each panel to 67" long.
Weave 3-4 picks of scrap yarn.
Remove from loom. Each panel should measure 8" x 60"
Tie knots in groups of four.
Sew panels together in rainbow order (ROYGBIV) and cut fringe to 1" long.
